Biography and Philosophy of History

Patrick Holt has taught history at eleven Universities in the region for thirty years. He has received fellowships and awards from the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library, the Rotary Foundation, and the Lilly Endowment.

He has served as a reviewer and editor for Medieval Sermon Studies, H-Catholic, and Allyn & Bacon/Longman. He has presented on Medieval and Reformation History at national conferences including the American History Association, The International Congress on Medieval Studies, and the American Catholic Historical Association. Dr. Holt also conducts research in the areas of community building, leadership, online student life/experience, and University mission development.

An avid music fan, frequent attendee at music festivals of all kinds, and a DJ, Dr. Holt enjoys integrating the arts into teaching history. He lives in the Hudson Valley of New York with his wife and four children, where he is also an avid hiker, kayaker, and power lifter.
