The Chinese edition of the multiple-award winning The Slave’s Cause: A History of Abolition (Yale University Press, 2016) was translated by Professor Li Dan of Nanjing University and published in two volumes in 2025. The book, which was also long listed for the National Book Award for non-fiction, expands the chronology of the abolition movement, extending its history from theAmerican Revolution to the Civil War. It reimagines abolition as an international social movement, centering slave resistance in its development and exploring its overlap with other contemporary radicalisms, such as feminism, utopian socialism, anti-imperialism and struggles for labor, immigrant, and indigenous rights and sovereignty.

Congratulations to Lincoln Hirn and Daniela Domínguez Tavares for competing in the Three-Minute Thesis Competition this year! Both participants made it to the final round. Lincoln Hirn’s presentation was titled “Worthy to be Counted”: The Postbellum Slave Narrative, 1865-1915. Daniela Domínguez Tavares was the Runner-up in the “Arts, Humanities, and Social Science Ph.D” category with her presentation titled “Imaginaries of Mexican Infrastructure.”
